Senior Student Retention Officer - Birmingham

Role Purpose: The Senior Student Retention Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring the retention and progression of students at GBS Global Applied Knowledge. This involves working closely with the Head of Student Retention, Retention Managers, Student Success Tutors, and academic staff to re-engage students in their studies.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with allocated learners as a Retention Officer (RO)
  • Monitor the onboarding and training of ROs and ensure that activities towards retention, achievement, and progression are closely monitored
  • Be the first point of contact for day-to-day activities
  • Work closely with Retention Managers to ensure tasks are closely monitored within the team
  • Improve campus attendance
  • Monitor Student Success Tutor (SST) performance towards attendance, engagement, and Withdrawal (WD)
  • Coordinate and ensure SSTs make required calls as per the audit of the call log, with engagement above 95%

Senior RO Update for the Week:

  • Daily attendance checks as per the timetable and identification of action taken to improve attendance for groups with less than 65% attendance
  • Identification of risk groups and risk learners below 50%
  • LA for learners who have missed for 3 weeks
  • PBI report weekly
  • 4-6 weeks assurance that all activities are completed by the end of the 4th week and no pending activities for the 6th week
  • Ensure WD are counter-checked by the SRO before sent to RM
  • Making sure information on Thesis is correct for the week one to 4 weeks, with special reference to comments and dates

Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice
  • Previous experience of working with students in higher education, specifically with mature students
  • Strong communication skills and ability to adapt messages for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way
  • Ability to plan and prioritise effectively to achieve objectives, work collaboratively in a team, and build and maintain positive relationships with students
  • High level of computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
