Job Overview

The SCMHT team primarily manages patients with established diagnoses of psychotic illness, including bipolar affective disorder, major depression, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders, as well as those deemed to have complex mental health needs.

Main Duties

Clinical Role

This is a replacement post, and the post holder will provide a consultative, supervisory, and supportive role to the multi-disciplinary team. The expected case load is around 330, with the majority of clinical work being clinic-based, but service users may also be seen at home as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking assessments of referrals/admissions to the service
  • Diagnosing and formulating management plans in complex presentations
  • Providing management in treatment-resistant and complex presentations
  • Assessing and managing risk, including vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety, and risk of harm to others
  • Preparing Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers' Hearings reports and attending subsequent hearings
  • Working in a collaborative way with the multi-disciplinary team, including external partners
  • Working in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers, such as Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrists

Leadership Role

The post holder will lead clinical decision-making in the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality care. This includes developing service clinical priorities in line with national and professional guidance and standards, engaging with service transformation programs, and attending Consultant meetings.

Education Role

The post holder will provide clinical supervision for trainees in gaining core psychiatric experience and achieving competencies in core general psychiatry.
