Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant Paediatrician to join our dynamic team at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to our patients, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent patient outcomes.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing consultant-level care to our patients, including covering the general paediatric ward and admissions, level 1+ neonatal unit, labour ward, and transitional care.
  • Working closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent patient outcomes.
  • Participating in our consultant of the week system, outpatients, and safeguarding sessions.
  • Pursuing other specialist interests within their job plan.

  • Inpatient wards: G2 in Basingstoke has 28 inpatient beds, providing care for a range of specialties, including medical, surgical, ENT, and orthopaedic admissions.
  • Paediatric Assessment Units (PAU), BNHH - Charlie's Day Unit: Providing expert paediatric opinion on children requiring urgent assessment.
  • Outpatients: A dedicated paediatric outpatient area adjacent to each paediatric ward, with over 8000 attendances each year.
  • Neonatal Care: Level 2 neonatal intensive care is provided as part of the South Central Neonatal Department, with close links for tertiary services with the University Hospital Southampton.
Person Specification

The successful candidate will possess:

  • MRCPCH or equivalent.
  • CCT Paediatrics or within 6 months of CCT or equivalent.
  • On the GMC Specialist Register for Paediatrics.
  • Broad training in General Paediatrics.
  • Level 3 Neonatal Experience and Training.
  • Training in developmental and community paediatrics appropriate for a General Paediatrician.
  • Safeguarding training and experience.
  • Up-to-date APLS/NLS.
