Job Title: Highways Operations Manager

Location: Weston-Super-Mare

Salary: £45,000 per annum

Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm

About the Role

The Highways Operations Manager will be responsible for managing supervisory staff and the operational service delivery of Highway Cyclical and Reactive Maintenance services operated on behalf of the client. The role will directly manage teams delivering winter and reactive maintenance, drainage cleansing and repair, emergency response services, and road signage and line markings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that supervisory and operational teams deliver on all the specified requirements of the services. Work with the Contract Manager to determine programme management of all core service works.
  • Investigate incidents in a timely manner and oversee all insurance and reporting requirements.
  • Manage services to ensure that efficiency levels are continuously improved upon, bringing value-added financial performance to the Company.
  • Develop and implement innovative new commercial opportunities which continuously improve on the financial performance of the Company.
  • Induct and train line reports and their teams on an ongoing basis, appraise, and give opportunities to succeed.
  • Ensure that all Company policies and procedures and legal obligations are understood and adhered to by all members of staff.
  • Support the Contract Manager in developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with the Client and internal/external customers.
  • Attend Client/customer meetings as required and ensure that all reports required as part of the Contract are delivered in time for meetings and any follow-up actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain all records and systems for the effective and compliant operation of the Company.
  • Support the Contract Manager to ensure that all financial/budgeted targets are achieved for the Contract.
Requirements
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification
  • Proven professional and/or industry experience
  • Experience managing sub-contractors and supply chain
  • People management including experience of HR processes
  • Proven track record of working to specified service KPI targets
  • Proven operational management or supervisory experience in Highways discipline
Technical Skills
  • Knowledge and application of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Good geographical awareness of industry supply chain in Southwest
  • Excellent understanding of English local authorities statutory Highways duties
Skills
  • IT literate including Microsoft Office suite and business systems
  • Excellent organisational, time management and planning skills
  • Ability to influence and persuade
  • Ability to deal with conflict and manage appropriate outcomes
  • Able to communicate at all levels verbally and in written form
