Job Title: Residential Childcare Support Worker

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team at Polaris Community. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing a safe and nurturing environment for young people aged 13-18 years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a caring and motivating environment is provided for the young people, taking into account individual developmental needs and enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
  • Keep well-informed of legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure the Children's Act, Children's homes regulations, and the national minimum standards are met at all times.
  • Observe and assess young people's progress and keep accurate records of their achievements, behavior, and important events in their lives.
  • Work with local authorities and placing authorities to ensure the care the young people receive is outstanding.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers in a way that supports young people's learning and development and values parental involvement where appropriate.
  • Be flexible within working practices of the home, including undertaking domestic tasks such as preparation of meals, cleaning, and shopping.
  • Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the home is fulfilled.
  • Keep clear and legible records regarding the young people, ensuring that entries are non-stigmatising and distinguished as far as possible between fact, opinion, and third-party information.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience of working with teenage boys or challenging behavior and a willingness to further develop your skills.
  • A valid driving license and access to a vehicle, as public transport is not a viable option due to the rural location of our services.
  • A Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • The ability to engage the young people in a wide range of activities and support them through their time at Polaris Community, guiding them towards independence and adulthood.
  • Flexibility with working hours and the ability to work a mixture of days, evenings, and weekends, including shift work with every other weekend off.
  • The ability to challenge unacceptable behavior, provide firm boundaries, and provide care that meets the needs of the individual.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and follow delegated tasks and handovers.
  • The ability to maintain policies and procedures and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to engage and listen to the young people and their families.
