Child Development and Mental Health Support Position

Academics is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to fill the role of Mental Health Teaching Assistant at our specialist school near Guildford.

This opportunity involves working with students aged 4-19 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including trauma, anxiety, OCD, and behavioral issues. You will play a critical role in supporting these students to increase their engagement, attainment, and life chances.

The ideal candidate will be able to build strong relationships, empathetic, and up for a challenge. They will identify risks and needs, escalating where necessary, and provide consistency to ensure students feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe they can succeed in life.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Support students with SEMH needs, including those who have experienced adverse childhood experiences
  • Identify risks and needs, escalating where necessary
  • Provide consistency and equip students with tools to feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe they can succeed in life
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK (no Visa sponsorship)
  • Be committed to safeguarding and child protection
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Salary and Benefits

This role offers a competitive salary of £23,000 - £29,000 per year, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4pm, term time only, plus excellent on-site training, support, and CPD to ensure safeguarding of all students.
