Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Support Officer to join our team at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. The successful candidate will provide research support for a programme investigating the morphogenesis of the early mammalian embryo.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic research by setting up, conducting, and recording the outcome of experiments.
  • Perform tasks arranged by your supervisor, including mouse colony husbandry and genotyping, basic molecular biology, routine cell culture, and basic computational tasks.
  • Organize and communicate information from the above tasks to your supervisor.
  • Conduct literature and database searches.
  • Contribute to the production of research reports.
  • Ensure and maintain an efficient and tidy laboratory.

Working Relationships

You will report to Dr. Kate McDole and interact and collaborate with Postdoctoral Scientists, Research Support Staff, and Students in your Group and LMB facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in biology or biochemistry or a related subject.
  • Basic laboratory bench work skills, including safe use of chemicals, preparation of buffers and other reagents, sterile technique, lab safety, and routine analytic calculations.
  • Experience or theoretical knowledge of basic molecular biology skills/techniques, including PCR, gene cloning, nucleic acid purification, and quantification.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Relevant Masters or equivalent relevant laboratory experience.
  • Previous experience in the field of developmental biology, particularly emphasis on mammalian development and mouse colony administration.
