Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Medical Research Council. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking cutting-edge research in the field of early human embryo development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent research in the field of early human embryo development, with a focus on identifying molecular mechanisms that underlie embryo plasticity.
  • Develop and implement novel approaches to solve complex research problems, requiring integration of different activities and techniques.
  • Interact effectively with a wide range of staff, students, and external collaborators to ensure the smooth running of the research group.
  • Manage equipment and resources, including training others in methods and use of equipment.
  • Write scientific papers and present at internal meetings and conferences.
  • Ensure research is conducted in accordance with good practice and compliance with local policies and legal requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for intellectual property creation and cooperate in patent protection and exploitation.
  • Apply for external grants and identify new equipment to support the group's programme.
  • Undertake line management responsibilities, including staff development and performance management, in accordance with the MRC's policies and procedures.

Person Specification:

  • PhD in a relevant biological subject.
  • Significant postdoctoral research experience in early human embryo development.
  • Experience of and proven ability to perform techniques relevant to the project, including classical embryology techniques, confocal imaging, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Human embryonic stem cell culture experience, including 3D cultures, naïve embryonic stem cell cultures, and extra-embryonic stem cell cultures.
  • Track record of research achievements and significant contributions to published papers.

Working Relationships:

The successful candidate will report to Dr. Marta Shahbazi and will liaise with other Research Support staff, Postdoctoral Scientists, and students, both within the group and across the LMB, as well as with external collaborators.
