Research Scientist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Investigator Scientist to join our research team at the Medical Research Council. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in early human embryo development, with a focus on identifying the molecular mechanisms underlying embryo plasticity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake research aimed at key questions within the remit of the research group
- Provide intellectual energy and independent thinking to deliver research and shape the overall aims and success of the group
- Develop and apply new techniques across a wide range of disciplines
- Interact effectively with staff, students, and others to ensure the smooth running of the research group
- Write scientific papers and present at internal meetings and conferences
- Ensure research is conducted in accordance with good practice and local policies and legal requirements
- Recognize opportunities for intellectual property creation and cooperate in patent protection and exploitation
- Identify new equipment and present argued cases for new purchases
- Identify opportunities for additional funding and apply for external grants where appropriate
Person Specification:
- PhD in a relevant biological subject
- Significant postdoctoral research experience in early human embryo development
- Experience of and proven ability to perform techniques relevant to the project, including classical embryology techniques, confocal imaging, and molecular biology techniques
- Human embryonic stem cell culture experience, including 3D cultures, naïve embryonic stem cell cultures, and extra-embryonic stem cell cultures
Working Relationships:
The successful candidate will report to Dr. Marta Shahbazi and will liaise with other Research Support staff, Postdoctoral Scientists, and students within the LMB and with external collaborators.
