Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant in Infection to join our Infection Service based in the Department of Pathology at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a 24-hour advisory service to clinicians and other clients of the service, including response to numerous telephone requests for advice, ward rounds, and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings.

Main Duties

The post holder will be involved in the management of patients on the Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service, provide direct input to patients, contribute to Renal and Paediatrics Multidisciplinary teams, and lead the coordination of care of patients within Preston and Chorley Hospitals. They will also be responsible for participating in the Infection Service Consultant on-call rota for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and assume a continuous commitment for care of patients.

About Us

The Microbiology Laboratory at Royal Preston Hospital is accredited for its clinical work by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service and offers a range of testing capabilities, including molecular testing and automated serological analysis. The Department is also accredited for the training of BMS staff and is approved for the training of medically qualified Microbiologists.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Primary Medical Qualification, FRCPath or equivalent qualification, and full and specialist registration with the GMC. They will also have experience in the management of Infection and laboratory liaison, as well as evidence of clinical leadership and commitment to audit and improving clinical practice/service development.
