Job Overview

This is a fixed term full-time post for 12 months as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Microbiology, working within an evolving Infection Service at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

As a Senior Clinical Fellow, you will work under the supervision of a nominated Consultant and participate in providing medical microbiology services. You may be required to participate in out-of-hours services and regular clinical audits related to microbiology and infection control.

Main Duties

The Medical Microbiology service includes:

  • Providing advice on specimen collection and investigations
  • Interpreting test results and patient management, including antibiotic choice and preventive measures
  • Developing policies, procedures, and guidelines

You will also attend regular ward rounds, respond to incoming enquiries, and be involved in the management of individual patients on Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT).

Person Specification

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • At least 2 years' experience in microbiology
  • MRCP Qualification

Additionally, you should demonstrate appropriate knowledge, sound clinical judgment, and laboratory skills related to Microbiology and Virology. Experience in clinical specialties with a significant component of infection is also desirable.
