Develop innovative solutions to drive the accuracy of ocean forecasts at the Met Office. As a Scientific Computing Specialist, you will play a vital role in advancing our understanding of the world's oceans.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join our team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge software tools that enable us to predict ocean conditions with greater precision.

The role involves collaborating with experts across various disciplines to integrate data from different sources and develop new methods for analyzing complex ocean dynamics. Your expertise in scientific programming languages such as Python or Bash will be essential in driving this work forward.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about data analysis and has a strong background in computer science or a related field. The successful candidate will have experience working with large datasets and developing efficient algorithms for data processing.

This position offers a competitive salary of £46,974 annually, which includes a base pay of £33,794, an outstanding Civil Service pension, and a Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) of £2,200 per annum. You will also enjoy a generous annual leave package, starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years, and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave.

  • Integration of data from multiple sources to improve the accuracy of ocean forecasts
  • Development of novel verification and observation processing tools
