King's Lynn, Norfolk, United Kingdom The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust Full time
Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced pharmacy technician to join our team as a Pharmacy IT Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and promote the use of information technology (IT) and digital transformation within our trust.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the ongoing maintenance of the Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) system as the system administrator. This will involve routine updates, installation of updated software, and testing required for any current version of the system.

The candidate will also provide expert support in the technical aspects of the development, implementation, and upgrading of the Trust-wide EPMA system. This will involve using their significant experience as a pharmacy technician with extensive experience of EPMA as a system user and administrator to lead and manage the daily operation and maintenance of the system.

The role will also involve the maintenance of other digital systems within pharmacy and participation in the implementation of new pharmacy digital systems. The successful candidate will support staff training in the use of EPMA and other digital systems across the trust.

Working for Our Organisation

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust is a leading healthcare provider in the region. We offer a comprehensive range of specialist and general acute services to around 331,000 people across West and North Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire, and South Lincolnshire.

We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers and approximately 500 beds on a single site. Some specialist services and clinics are provided in community facilities, such as the North Cambridgeshire hospital in Wisbech. We work in partnership with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services.

In February 2022, the QEH was rated as 'Good' in all of the core services inspected by the Care Quality Commission, and we were recommended to move out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures).

We are delighted to have been added to the New Hospital Programme – and we look forward to bringing a new Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) to King's Lynn and West Norfolk, which is nothing less than our patients, local communities, and staff deserve.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services, current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council, and Accredited Checking Technician for final checking of dispensed medicines. They will also have SQL Reporting training and experience in a hospital pharmacy environment, with significant experience of using and developing EPMA.

The ideal candidate will have excellent working knowledge of SQL reporting, be able to use Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to produce high-quality documents, and have excellent communication skills – oral and written. They will also be able to record information accurately, prioritize conflicting demands on time from a variety of sources, and manage time accordingly.

The successful candidate will be able to take on a leadership role and act as a positive role model to colleagues, with the ability to travel to other EPMA sites and meet requirements for out of hours working. They will also be able to resolve conflict between parties and negotiate to a solution.

Benefits

We offer our staff a wide range of benefits and support, including flexible working opportunities, free counselling service, NHS Pension scheme, access to Wagestream – an app-based service that provides instant earned wage access, support and advice for staff affected by either Peri-Menopause or Menopause, free parking for all staff until March 2024, and the opportunity to join our Staff Networks which include: Armed Forces, REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Culture Heritage), Disability, and LGBTQ+ networks.

We are committed to being a menopause-friendly employer and offer a supportive and training-focused environment within our friendly team.
