Job Description

Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant

At Integra People, we are seeking a SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide support to students with SEMH needs in a school setting.

  • Support students with SEMH needs in a one-to-one and group setting, helping them to manage their emotions, behaviours, and interactions.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external agencies to implement individualized support plans for students with SEMH needs.
  • Develop and deliver tailored interventions to support students in developing coping strategies, social skills, and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, acting as a role model and mentor, and providing encouragement and guidance to help them overcome challenges.
  • Support students during times of distress or crisis, employing de-escalation techniques and providing a safe and supportive environment.
  • Contribute to promoting a positive and inclusive school culture, organizing activities to raise awareness of SEMH issues and reduce stigma.
  • Monitor and track student progress, maintaining accurate records of interventions and outcomes.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs in an educational setting (preferable).
  • Understanding of SEMH conditions and their impact on learning and behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience in supporting students through challenging situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
