About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Perinatal Psychiatry Service as a Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist. As a key senior clinician, you will provide senior medical input to the Perinatal Community Team in Tyne & Wear.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold weekly outpatient clinics at St. Nicholas Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Monkwearmouth Hospital, Sunderland.
  • See direct referrals from GPs, Psychiatrists, and Obstetricians, or the CPNs in the Perinatal Team.
  • Use new ways of working to participate in the review of patients within the Perinatal Community Mental Health Team.
  • Provide up-to-date evidence-based interventions and communicate with relatives, carers, GPs, and other disciplines and agencies as appropriate.
  • Assess and make recommendations under the Mental Health Act (Section 12(2) approved) and act as a Responsible Clinician for detained patients.
  • Provide cross-cover for the other consultant in the service and provide medical leadership to the Perinatal Community Mental Health Team.
