About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist to join our Perinatal Psychiatry Service based at St. Nicholas Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a well-established team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality care to women with perinatal mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior medical input to the Perinatal Community Team in Tyne & Wear
  • Hold weekly outpatient clinics at St. Nicholas Hospital and Monkwearmouth Hospital, seeing new patients and follow-up patients
  • Contribute to the consultant on-call rota, which is currently 1 in 16
  • Assess and make recommendations under the Mental Health Act (Section 12(2) approved) and act as a Responsible Clinician for detained patients
  • Provide medical leadership to the Perinatal Community Mental Health Team, collaborating with senior colleagues and taking a lead role in service improvements and development

Person Specification

We are looking for a Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist who has:

Registered as a Specialist in Psychiatry on GMC Specialist Register (or are eligible for such inclusion) or within six months of gaining CCTApproved under the section of the Mental Health Act or equivalent, or willing and eligible to apply for approvalApproved Clinician status, or willing and eligible to apply for approvalUp-to-date knowledge in the field of Perinatal Psychiatry and awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislationPrior experience of providing clinical care for women in the perinatal period, experience of multidisciplinary team working, and experience of community-oriented services for people with severe mental illness
