About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist to join our Perinatal Psychiatry Service based at St. Nicholas Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a well-established team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality care to women with perinatal mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior medical input to the Perinatal Community Team in Tyne & Wear
  • Hold weekly outpatient clinics at St. Nicholas Hospital and Monkwearmouth Hospital, seeing new patients and follow-up patients
  • Contribute to the consultant on-call rota, which is currently 1 in 16
  • Assess and make recommendations under the Mental Health Act (Section 12(2) approved) and act as a Responsible Clinician for detained patients
  • Provide cross-cover for the other consultant in the service and provide medical leadership to the Perinatal Community Mental Health Team

Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Registration as a Specialist in Psychiatry on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility for such inclusion) or within six months of gaining CCT
  • Approved under the section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act or equivalent, or willing and eligible to apply for approval
  • Approved Clinician status, or willing and eligible to apply for approval
