Dementia Care Specialist

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Dementia Care Specialist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse to take on a leadership role in providing specialist dementia care.
The successful candidate will have significant post-registration clinical experience of supporting people with dementia and their carers/families, as well as experience facilitating and delivering training/development of staff.
This role involves providing clinical leadership on the care of people with dementia and their carers/families with complex care needs from peri-diagnosis to post-bereavement support. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the 6 Admiral Nurse competencies and possess strong communication skills, good facilitation/presentation skills, and the ability to influence change.
We offer a competitive salary package, including a base salary of £43,041 - £53,052 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits.
About the Role
As a Dementia Care Specialist, you will work collaboratively with other professionals to improve the identification and management of co-morbidities and frailty for people with dementia and their carers/families. You will also develop and support care plans for people with dementia and families, including positive risk management.
You will provide a range of bio-psychosocial interventions to promote health and wellbeing for people with dementia and their carers/families, and ensure the safeguarding of vulnerable adults and that all legal requirements relating to Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (2009) are considered and adhered to in relation to patient care.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a registered nursing qualification, postgraduate qualification in a relevant field, and evidence of continued professional development/training in relevant areas, including dementia and leadership. They will also have commitment to continued professional and practice development through Dementia UK's Admiral Nurse Academy.
Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner, managing care transitions, and providing professional supervision of staff, including staff development, critical companionship, and role modelling, is essential.
