Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Senior Heritage Consultant with expertise in townscape consultancy to join our expanding team at Savills.

This is an exciting opportunity for a professional to take on a challenging role that requires in-depth knowledge of the planning system in England, including a detailed understanding of the NPPF, planning policy, and guidance related to heritage and townscape.

The primary focus of this position will be providing ongoing townscape, heritage, and visual impact consultancy services, working closely with the national Planning Team at Savills and their external clients.

Your day-to-day work will involve appraising sites, identifying sensitive heritage and townscape contexts, and confidently advising clients and project teams on potential considerations as part of scheme evolution. You will also prepare robust Heritage, Townscape, and Visual Impact Assessments (HTVIA), specifically those requiring ES chapters as part of EIA.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in a similar role, preferably with 3+ or 5+ years post-qualification in a heritage and townscape consultancy environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultancy advice to colleagues and clients
  • Offer direct design feedback to architects on behalf of our clients
  • Regularly report to clients and senior colleagues
  • Brief and liaise with visualisation specialists in the production of AVRs
  • Conduct preliminary views studies independently
  • Assess potential townscape and visual effects using VU.CITY
  • Produce HTVIA documents for planning submission using InDesign and Illustrator
  • Attend consultation events related to projects, particularly consultations with Historic England, Local Authority Conservation staff, and statutory amenity societies
  • Assist in drawing up, presenting, and negotiating competitive fee proposals
  • Maintain active communication within your team and other teams within Savills

Estimated Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum depending on experience.
