Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our Life Sciences team as a Head Technician. This is a full-time, permanent position working 35 hours per week.

About the Role

The School of Life Sciences at the University of Westminster is a vibrant research community with a wide reputation for teaching, research, and knowledge exchange. We are looking for a skilled and organized individual to provide strong leadership and strategic direction to our Life Sciences Technical Team.

As a key member of the School Management Team, you will work closely with colleagues across the school and wider university to maintain the highest quality of teaching, research, and knowledge exchange facilities. You will be responsible for managing an established group of dedicated and skilled technical staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, consistent, and flexible support to teaching, research, and outreach activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction to the Life Sciences Technical Team
  • Manage a team of technical staff to deliver high-quality support to teaching, research, and outreach activities
  • Work closely with colleagues across the school and wider university to maintain the highest quality of facilities
  • Develop and implement technical strategies to support the school's research and teaching activities
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment
Requirements

We are looking for an individual with a solid technical background, knowledge, and experience of technical management in life and health sciences. You should be able to think strategically, be highly organized, and have a positive strategic focus. Strong interpersonal skills, a focus on compliance, and a dedication to providing excellent customer service are essential.

You will be expected to be involved with key school and institutional initiatives and infrastructure/building projects, such as the Life Sciences Estates Project.
