Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our Life Sciences team as a Head Technician. This is a full-time, permanent position working 35 hours per week.

About the Role

The School of Life Sciences at the University of Westminster is a leading institution for teaching, research, and knowledge exchange. We are looking for a skilled and organized individual to provide strong leadership and strategic direction to our Life Sciences Technical Team.

As a key member of our School Management Team, you will work closely with colleagues across the school and wider university to maintain the highest quality of teaching, research, and knowledge exchange facilities. You will be responsible for managing a team of dedicated and skilled technical staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality support to teaching, research, and outreach activities.

This challenging and varied role requires a solid technical background, knowledge, and experience of technical management in life and health sciences. You will need to think strategically, be highly organized, and have a positive strategic focus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of technical staff to deliver high-quality support to teaching, research, and outreach activities
  • Provide strong leadership and strategic direction to the Life Sciences Technical Team
  • Work closely with colleagues across the school and wider university to maintain the highest quality of teaching, research, and knowledge exchange facilities
  • Develop and implement technical strategies to support the school's core activities
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience of technical management in a similar field
  • Strong leadership and strategic skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
