Job Summary:

CRA GROUP LIMITED is seeking an experienced Review Officer to join our team. As a Review Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that statutory reviews are carried out within the statutory time limits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out complex housing reviews and appeals, producing well-written, legally sound decisions.
  • Liaise with the Legal Department and Head of Service to defend legal challenges, including judicial review proceedings and County Court appeals.
  • Ensure that complaints and member enquiries are logged and responded to within target timeframes.
  • Monitor and prepare reports for the Head of Service and Members on performance in respect of decision reviews and court cases.
  • Develop procedures, guidelines, and model letter templates in relation to taking and processing applications.
  • Stay up-to-date with good practice initiatives and government regulations.
  • Arrange oral hearings for clients, as necessary.
  • Examine reports and case notes prepared by the Case Work Officers on applications prepared for review.
  • Identify shortcomings or trends where remedial action is required.
  • Ensure that the Case work Team is fully aware of current caselaw and related legislation.
  • Highlight anomalies/irregularities in the Allocations Scheme and homelessness and accommodation procedures.
  • Authorise and make recommendations on the placement into temporary accommodation of persons to whom the Council owes a duty.
  • Exercise discretion in deciding whether to continue providing accommodation pending a review or County Court appeal.
  • Take a lead on briefing the Council's solicitors and counsel.
  • Attend court, as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently using your own initiative.
  • Experience of carrying out complex housing enquiries and producing well-written, legally sound decisions.
  • Highly detailed knowledge of current and emerging housing legislation and case law related to housing advice issues.
