Audience Strategist Job Description

At The Wall Street Journal, we're seeking a skilled Audience Strategist to join our team in London. As a key member of our editorial leadership team, you'll play a crucial role in developing audience strategy that engages our subscribers and reaches new audiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with senior editors to develop audience strategy, focusing on subscriber engagement and new audience acquisition.
  • Champion the use of data and analytics in the newsroom, translating insights into actionable recommendations and monitoring key performance indicators.
  • Lead training on digital best practices and data-driven decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities across departments to drive audience growth and engagement.
  • Participate in news meetings to shape stories that meet audience needs.
  • Work with our social and SEO team to monitor topics of interest and inform coverage decisions.
  • Shape the format of our journalism to tell impactful stories through various mediums.
  • Share audience learnings with the broader newsroom.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of digital newsroom experience, including strategy, editing, production, or project management.
  • Strong analytical skills, including data analysis and narrative creation.
  • Data skills and experience with web analytics tools, with SQL, Python, or other data-analysis languages a plus.
  • Understanding of the competitive landscape for digital news media.
  • Track record of building strong relationships and collaborating with teams.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively in writing and in person.
  • Comfortable taking initiative and developing solutions to challenges.
