About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust as part of our Inpatient Rehabilitation team based at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford).

We have a substantive, full-time position available as part of a flexible Rehabilitation team that will cover the Cardiology, Acute Neurology and General Medical wards.

The role will involve providing a range of therapeutic interventions, treatments and exercise programmes to patients and liaising with patients and family/carers in discharge planning and prevention of falls.

The post holder will be expected to identify and support the physical limitations of a patient's disability and their functional problems to support the therapy team to deliver early routine assessments and rehabilitation.

There will be a requirement to develop strong links with the multidisciplinary teams working in the acute and community settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide therapy assessment and treatment of a specified caseload of inpatients within the acute rehab service working with both the Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physiotherapy teams.
  • Manage patients' care, including assessment and information gathering, physical and cognitive assessments, development of treatment plans, and delivery of care and rehabilitation.
  • Deliver treatment activities, such as exercise and mobility programmes, personal activities of daily living, communication therapy programmes, and education and advice to patients and their families.
  • Work closely with the therapy teams and provide liaison with family, carers and external agencies to ensure safe and effective transfer of patient therapy from the in-patient rehabilitation setting to other services.
  • Delegation and supervision of appropriate tasks to Bands 2 and 3.
Working Arrangements

This position is based on the Cardiology wards on the main Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital site, The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford).

This post will be static within a clinical speciality area, but there may be a requirement for the post holder to work flexibly in other areas as required (including Acute Medicine & Neurology).

Working hours per week: Monday to Friday between the hours of 08:00 and 16:00. The position carries an expectation to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
