Sheffield City Council is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Policy and Support Officer to join our Revenues and Benefits Policy and Support Team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration of the Housing Benefit Subsidy claim, the processing of claims for Housing Benefit (supported exempt accommodation), and the administration of applications for assistance from the Discretionary Housing Payment and Council Tax Hardship Schemes.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Assisting with annual external Housing Benefit audit through the completion of focused quality checks on Housing Benefit decisions.
  • Providing assistance to the Housing Benefit Subsidy Officer.
  • Processing supported/exempt Housing Benefit claims.
  • Administering the Discretionary Housing Payments and Council Tax Hardship Schemes within allocated budgets.
  • Advising customers and stakeholders on the nature of these schemes and responding to queries regarding potential entitlement and any awards made.
  • Assisting in the completion of statutory returns.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a Housing Benefit team, making decisions on claims for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support, or Discretionary Housing Payment schemes. They will also have an understanding of the Housing Benefit regulations, experience of working with Housing Benefit processing systems, and excellent IT skills.
