About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Disability Nurse Specialist to join our team at Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, ensuring their needs are met through person-centred planning and risk assessments. Your clinical expertise will also be utilized to educate and train staff across various sectors, promoting awareness of learning disability and mental health.

In collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, you will develop, implement, and review comprehensive care plans tailored to each individual's unique requirements. Safeguarding is a critical aspect of this role; you will participate in regular supervision and training sessions to maintain expertise in addressing safeguarding concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  1. To provide high-quality care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in their homes and schools.
  2. To contribute to the assessment, planning, and implementation of programmes of care for children with intellectual disabilities within the Pan Dorset ID CAMHS team.
  3. To work closely with individuals, carers, and multi-professional teams to develop and review person-centred care and support plans.
  4. To share your clinical expertise with staff from social services and the independent sector, enhancing their knowledge on behaviour, mental health, and learning disability.
  5. To ensure safeguarding is prioritized throughout your role, attending regular supervision and training sessions, addressing safeguarding concerns, and recording these incidents electronically.

What You'll Need:

  • A registered nurse qualification in Learning Disabilities or Mental Health Nursing.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and training for CPD purposes.
  • Experience working at a band 5 level.
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding principles.
  • The ability to manage time effectively, prioritize workload, and collaborate well within a multi-agency team.

Salary Information

The estimated salary for this position is £38,890 - £44,884 per annum, reflecting the demands and expectations of this challenging yet rewarding role.
