Job Title: Finance Manager

Heriot-Watt University is leading a consortium of seven universities, supporting the formation of a new national research centre funded by a significant UKRI and stakeholder co-investment for a 5-year and £45M programme of challenge-led research into digital twinning for transport decarbonisation.

The Finance Manager will be responsible for the financial management and reporting of the Research Hub for the 5-year duration of the award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and control all aspects of the financial administration and reporting of the Research Hub, including claims from partner institutions and financial reporting on expenditure of Flexible Fund (£3M) over the five years of the award.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation, preparation and submission of claims, invoices, financial reporting to funders in accordance with their terms and conditions and within timelines agreed with the funder.
  • Reconcile and monitor eligible expenditure, compile claims, quarterly reviews, invoices, expenditure statements ensuring compliance with related regulations and terms and conditions.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records for audit purposes, both internally and externally, complying with funder requirements.
  • Provide financial reporting for the Research Hub Management Team, the Executive Group and Lead Investigators.
  • Offer advice, support and training on grant conditions and project accounting to Investigators and administrators, ensuring compliance and adherence to any specific terms of the project.

Requirements:

  • Experience of working within financial management within a research environment.
  • Experience of using Oracle Fusion, or great experience using a similar large accounting software system.
  • Highly competent using Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Proven relevant experience in research finance management acquired over a number of years.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of relevant legal, statutory and governance applications and turning them into good practice.
  • High level planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise major developments.
