As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of day-to-day resource management for South Western Railway Drivers, Metro Guards, and Commercial Guards. Your primary objective will be to ensure the delivery of a safe, punctual train service within budgetary guidelines.
Main Responsibilities- Coordinate drivers, guards, and commercial guards on a daily basis to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Ensure the fitness of duty of train crew when booking on and off duty.
- Accurately record train crew sickness and report it to line managers in a timely manner.
- Manage the display of safety-critical information.
- Submit train crew reports in a timely manner.
- Provide first-line chain of care when required.
- Contribute to the efficient structure of train crew diagrams and links through liaison with line managers.
- Improve train performance through proactive resourcing arrangements.
- Establish a leadership style that promotes SWT's vision and values, with a focus on professional business delivery.
- Certify and authorize train crew overtime.
- Communicate diagram changes to train crew.
- Disseminate train crew diagrams and amended diagrams within terms and conditions.
- Utilize IT software packages such as Genius, Crewplan, Trust, P2, etc. to improve information dissemination and productivity.
- Maintain a detailed knowledge of train crew conditions of service and local depot codifications.
- Be familiar with rostering, FR&I, GRI, DRI, and national and business conditions of service.
- Understand performance regimes.
- Have knowledge of route geography and traction.
- Experience in the Railway industry is not essential but could be an advantage.
- Leadership qualities, general management, interpersonal skills, clear thinking, judgment, and organizational ability.
- Appreciation of Health and Safety legislation.
- Experience in a strongly unionized environment is desirable.
- Educated to a good academic standard with a professional certificate in management is desirable.
- Proven ability to manage a busy workload and prioritize.
- Excellent communication skills.
Average of 42 hours per week over 5 days.
Earlies: 05:30 - 14:54
Lates: 13:30 - 21:54
Nights: 21:30 - 06:54
Spare: 09:00-18:00 (Can pick up any shift)
