Job Overview

Mercanta Ltd., a leading importer of green coffee, seeks a skilled Business Development Representative to join their Sales Team in Kingston Upon Thames. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of sales experience within the commodities sector and a genuine interest in coffee and sustainable supply chains.

The successful applicant will be responsible for day-to-day management of a portfolio of current roaster accounts across the UK & EU, researching and developing potential new roaster accounts, conducting quality control of offer, pre-shipment, and arrival samples (cupping), and part-managing the UK & EU position (inventory).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing roaster clients, ensuring high-quality service and building long-term partnerships.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through research and networking, with a focus on expanding Mercanta's presence in the UK & EU markets.
  • Collaborate with the logistics team to ensure smooth delivery and communication with clients.
  • Support demand planning and procurement from over 20 origins globally, working closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in event planning, including global trade shows, client visits, and local tasting sessions, showcasing Mercanta's expertise and building brand awareness.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • 1-3 years of client-facing sales experience in commodities, preferably in the coffee industry.
  • Genuine passion for coffee, sustainability, and supply chain management.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
What We Offer
  • A competitive salary of £50,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on experience.
