Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Assistant to join our team at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Dispensary team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medication to our patients.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management of stock levels, including stock rotation and date checking
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Dispensary
  • Process and manage pharmacy virtual outpatient clinic prescriptions
  • Assist in the delivery of dispensed items to wards and departments
  • Ensure accurate storage and monitoring of medication, including stock rotation and expiry dates
  • Oversee and maintain clinic work processed via the Dispensary
  • Report any discrepancies or issues to the procurement and distribution managers
  • Sort, file, and archive prescriptions and other relevant documents as per SOPs
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of stock levels and discrepancies
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and staff
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records using pharmacy computer systems
  • Receive and process outpatient prescriptions, including taking payment and advising on benefits
  • Record all financial transactions connected with NHS and private patients
  • Responsible for the Dispensary cash register procedure, including float and cashing up
  • Participate in late night, weekend, and bank holiday rotas as required
  • Report any complaints, incidents, or near-miss situations via the error reporting system and line manager
  • Maintain a clean and tidy environment

Person Specification

  • GCSE (English & Maths C or above)
  • NVQ2 (pharmaceutical) or ability to work towards within 6 months
  • Stock control and accurate dispensing skills
  • Demonstrated accurate numeracy skills, without using a calculator, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication
  • Familiarity with pharmacy services
  • IT literacy, including core Office programs
  • Good technical, organizational, and methodical skills
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment and work in a restrictive clean room environment
