Big C, a regional charity dedicated to supporting those affected by cancer in Norfolk and surrounding areas, offers student counselling placements at its Support and Information Centres in Norwich. This opportunity allows individuals to gain clinical hours while providing person-centred support to adult service users whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

The placement involves working face-to-face, although occasional virtual sessions may occur, requiring online and phone training, as well as a basic understanding of Zoom. A commitment of one day per week for the duration of the placement is expected.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a Counselling/Psychotherapy course leading to a recognized qualification at least Diploma level.
  • Hold student registration with BACP and work within their ethical framework.
  • Be assessed by their tutor as prepared to work with clients, including remote sessions.
  • Arrange regular professional supervision.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS (undertaken by Big C).
  • Benefit from gaining clinical experience with a reputable local charity.
  • Receive reimbursement for reasonable travel expenses.
  • Enjoy regular support and communication with Big C's counselling team.

Estimated salary: £15,000 - £20,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
