About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Carbon-Conscious Computing lab at the University of Glasgow and contribute to the development of new methods for carbon-aware scheduling and scaling of cluster applications.

The successful candidate will work on the EPSRC-funded project 'Casper: Carbon-Aware Scalable Processing in Elastic Clusters' and collaborate with Dr Lauritz Thamsen and the project's industrial and academic partners.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on carbon-aware cluster computing and contribute to the development of new methods for carbon-aware scheduling and scaling.
  • Design and implement prototypes for popular open-source cluster computing systems.
  • Conduct empirical experiments on elastic Kubernetes clusters.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings and seminars.
  • Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences.
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant field, such as computer science or software engineering.
  • Good programming skills in Python and Java.
  • Knowledge of cloud system technologies, especially system virtualisation and containerisation.
  • Knowledge of cluster resource management systems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 30 months. The salary will be Grade 6/7, £33,232 - £45,163 per annum.
