About the Role

Somerset Wildlife Trust is a local independent charity dedicated to improving the natural environment of Somerset for the benefit of wildlife and people. We are seeking a skilled individual to join our Somerset Nature Connections Project delivery team, working in partnership with Quantock Hills, Blackdown Hills and Mendip Hills Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Purpose of the Role

This role will involve developing and delivering opportunities that support adults and young people experiencing physical and mental health concerns. Our aim is to connect them to nature through structured programmes and community activity, improving wellbeing and engendering an appreciation and value of the natural environment.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Utilize in-depth knowledge of the benefits natural environments provide for maintaining and improving health and wellbeing, delivering a programme of work in partnership with Somerset's AONBs, health and social care sector, and external specialists.
  2. Deliver high-quality facilitation of nature connection sessions, ensuring maximum wellbeing and environmental benefits.
  3. Work proactively with external organisations and community groups to establish nature connection sessions.
  4. Ensure project delivery adheres to rigorous safeguarding and health and safety policies in accordance with Somerset Wildlife Trust existing policies.
  5. Support the development of further funding bids to expand the health and wellbeing through nature connection programme, gathering evidence through delivery.
  6. Support Blackdown Hills AONB Community Ranger and team to embed nature connection work in future delivery plans.
  7. Deliver meaningful and supportive monitoring and evaluation, prioritizing participants' wellbeing and supporting further funding bids.
  8. Collaborate with project delivery officers and volunteers, providing peer support and management to deliver the work programme as a team.
  9. Follow reporting schedules agreed with Somerset Nature Connections Project Manager and provide regular content for project reports.
  10. Implement the communications plan, raising awareness of the project and its impact, and gathering support for nature and wellbeing initiatives.
  11. Complete relevant training within the wider conservation and health and social care sector, including Mental Health First Aid if not already complete.
  12. Work with internal and external staff/organisations to signpost participants onto other initiatives, projects, and training opportunities.
  13. Develop and deliver training opportunities for staff and volunteers to understand the benefits of nature connection for wellbeing, facilitating increased participation.
  14. Develop and maintain good relations with landowners and land managers, facilitating access to green spaces.
  15. Organise and run public and community events to connect people to green spaces and recognize the health and wellbeing benefits.
