Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and skilled Cost Management Specialist to join our dynamic team at Fortem Cares. This role is essential in supporting the execution of our capital works initiatives, focusing on property enhancements such as bathrooms, kitchens, roofs, and electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cost Management Specialist, you will collaborate closely with the Senior Cost Manager and Operations Management, overseeing the development of the Assistant Cost Managers. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the organization secures its full entitlements within contractual parameters and engages in further commercial discussions.
  • Understanding and adhering to the company's values and procedures, both internally and externally.
  • Supporting the project team in achieving or surpassing budgetary goals.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert on contractual arrangements and managing the application schedule of rates.
  • Maximizing cash flow through timely invoicing and resolving client queries to ensure prompt payment.
  • Monitoring and analyzing management information and job costs against revenue, aiding operations and finance in data-driven decision-making.
  • Identifying potential disputes early and reporting them to your line manager.
  • Ensuring subcontractor orders accurately reflect the main contract requirements and scope of work.
  • Assisting in the preparation and timely reporting of information, including Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR) and management accounts, while maintaining robust budget governance.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong numerical and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interrogation.
  • Advanced IT skills, particularly in Excel (including V-Lookup, Pivot tables, and formula development).
  • Awareness of contractual obligations.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
  • Experience in line management and team development.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant contract conditions.
  • Experience in re-measuring high-risk packages and trades.
  • Ability to manage costs in alignment with budgetary constraints.
  • Willingness to provide feedback for the enhancement of systems and controls.
  • Adaptability to change and support its implementation within the organization.
