Position Overview

Fortem Cares is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Cost Management Specialist to enhance our team. This role is pivotal in overseeing the financial aspects of our projects, ensuring that we meet our clients' expectations while maintaining budgetary constraints.

The Cost Management Specialist will collaborate closely with the Senior Cost Manager and will be responsible for guiding the Assistant Cost Managers, focusing on their professional growth and development.

This position requires a strong emphasis on accurate financial reporting and fostering robust relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring optimal value for our investments and accurate market assessments from our suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Cost Management Specialist include:

• Securing the company’s full entitlements in line with contractual agreements and facilitating further commercial discussions.

• Upholding the company's values and procedures in all interactions.

• Aiding the project team in achieving or surpassing financial targets.

• Managing the application of rates and serving as a subject matter expert on contractual matters.

• Enhancing cash flow through timely invoicing and addressing client inquiries to ensure prompt payments.

• Conducting monitoring and analysis of management data and job costs versus revenue, supporting operational and financial decision-making.

• Proactively identifying potential disputes and communicating them to the line manager.

• Ensuring that subcontractor agreements accurately reflect the main contract requirements and scope of work.

• Assisting the Senior Cost Manager in preparing and reporting essential information, including Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR) and management accounts, while ensuring robust budget governance.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• A degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent relevant experience.

• Strong numerical and organizational abilities.

• Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.

• Advanced IT skills, particularly in Excel (including V-Lookup, Pivot tables, and formula development).

• Awareness of contractual obligations.

• Strong negotiation and communication skills.

• Experience in line management and team development.

• In-depth knowledge of relevant contract conditions.

• Experience in re-measuring high-risk packages and trades.

• Ability to manage costs in accordance with budgetary constraints.

• Capacity to provide constructive feedback for improved systems and controls.

• Adaptability to change and support its implementation within the organization.
