Job Title: Strategic Academic Liaison Officer

Job Purpose:


The University of Glasgow seeks a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Academic Liaison Officer to lead the Academic Consultancy Service (ACS) and drive its strategic objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring service excellence, portfolio growth, and supporting strategic management of the University's Academic Consultancy activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Leading Operational Management: The Strategic Academic Liaison Officer will lead high-level operational management of the University's Academic Consultancy portfolio, proactively supporting delivery of the University's strategic objectives for Academic Consultancy.
  2. Financial Management: The role holder will provide effective oversight and financial management of all consultancy budgets within the University portfolio, working closely with the Academic Consultancy Managers, Contract Managers, and Finance Consultancy team.
  3. Stakeholder Relationships: The Strategic Academic Liaison Officer will build relationships and maintain an effective network with relevant colleagues across the organisation, providing authoritative guidance on the subject to all stakeholders engaging in University Academic Consultancy activities.
  4. Portfolio Management System: The role holder will lead the ACS portfolio management system and reporting tools, ensuring compliance with fiscal regulations, risk obligations, and data management best practice.
  5. Reporting and Analysis: The Strategic Academic Liaison Officer will produce and distribute regular operational reports, compiling and analysing large data sets into comprehensive evidence-based reports to deliver robust management information and recommendations for future service delivery.
  6. Project Administration: The role holder will manage project administration, including consultancy project forms, supplier setup forms, provision of banking information, and other related duties as reasonably required.
  7. Business Development: The Strategic Academic Liaison Officer will work with the broader ACS team to continually monitor, review, and implement changes to systems to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of consultancy processes, procedures, and systems.
  8. Events and Workshops: The role holder will lead the organisation of reputationally important pan-university ACS events, workshops, and training programmes to grow academic engagement, supporting the development and maintenance of the ACS webpages.
  9. Professional Development: The Strategic Academic Liaison Officer will engage in reasonable professional development activities as appropriate.

Key Requirements

  1. Qualifications: A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
  2. Knowledge and Skills: A2 Detailed knowledge of financial processes, systems, and budgeting in a large organisation, and A3 Detailed knowledge and understanding of interrogating and maintaining databases.
  3. Desirable: B1 Knowledge of higher education.
  4. Skills: C1 Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  5. Experience: E1 Relevant work experience with above qualification, or evidence of progression and development gained through considerable relevant work experience.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 - £36,024 per annum. This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and open ended. Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
