Electrical Hardware Design Engineer

Rubicon Consulting is seeking a skilled Electrical Hardware Design Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis in Staffordshire. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading and driving project teams, reviewing and approving designs, and ensuring compliance with engineering design responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and drive project teams to deliver high-quality designs
  • Review and approve designs developed by the team
  • Ensure compliance with engineering design responsibilities and procedures
  • Interpret and verify customer-supplied data, specifications, and drawings
  • Lead the creation and modification of design packs, including system drawings, general arrangements, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Produce client design documentation and test documentation
  • Support site acceptance testing and commissioning
  • Support the production of tender documents and cost estimates

Requirements:

  • Experience of control systems within the energy market or similar utility
  • Experience of field cabling systems, including surveying and identifying routes, cable calculations, and earthing/protection
  • Experience of control panel design incorporating PLC, I/O, comms cards, UPS, etc.
  • Educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject or HND with additional experience
  • Computer literate with Word, Autocad, and Excel experience
  • Methodical approach to interpreting customer requirements and delivering project documentation
  • Understanding of the full project lifecycle
  • Hold a current full driving license (UK or be able to easily convert to full UK)

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in at least one of the following: Rockwell (Control Logix), Siemens (PC7S, TIA Portal), Schneider (M580, M340)
  • Site installation and commissioning experience of control systems
  • Experience of motor control centers specification, procurement, installation, etc.
  • Good understanding of BS7671 IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regs
  • Awareness of DSEAR Regulations and hazardous area applications
  • Awareness of functional safety (IEC 61508/61511)
  • Ability to work to deadlines and budgets
  • Familiarity with databases
