Electrical Hardware Design Engineer Job Description

Rubicon Consulting is seeking an experienced Electrical Hardware Design Engineer to join our team on a permanent basis in Staffordshire. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading and driving project teams, reviewing and approving designs, and ensuring compliance with engineering design responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and drive project teams to deliver high-quality designs and projects.
  • Review and approve designs developed by the team, ensuring they meet the required standards and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering design responsibilities, including interpreting and verifying customer-supplied data, specifications, and drawings.
  • Lead the creation and modification of design packs, including system drawings, general arrangements, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Produce client design documentation and test documentation, including FDS, test documentation, and manuals.
  • Support site surveys and assist in the preparation of health and safety documentation.
  • Support site acceptance testing and commissioning.
  • Support the production of tender documents and cost estimates.
Requirements:
  • Experience of control systems within the energy market or similar utility.
  • Experience of field cabling systems, including surveying and identifying routes, cable calculations for sizing and earthing/protection.
  • Experience of control panel design incorporating PLC, I/O, comms cards, UPS's, etc.
  • Educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject or HND with additional experience of at least 5 years post-graduate experience or 6 years post-HND experience on successful project implementation in the above areas of expertise.
  • Computer literate with Word, Autocad, and Excel experience.
  • Methodical approach to the interpretation of customer requirements and delivery of project documentation.
  • Understanding of the full project lifecycle.
  • Hold a current full driving license (UK or be able to easily convert to full UK).
  • Must be willing to go for a basic disclosure Scotland check.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience in at least one of the following: Rockwell (Control Logix), Siemens (PC7S, TIA Portal), Schneider (M580, M340).
  • Site installation and commissioning experience of control systems.
  • Experience of motor control centers – specification, procurement, installation, etc.
  • Good understanding of BS7671 IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regs.
  • Awareness of /understanding of DSEAR Regulations and Hazardous area applications.
  • Awareness of /understanding of Functional Safety (IEC 61508/61511).
  • Ability to work to deadlines and budgets.
  • Familiarity with databases.
