About the Role

Main Responsibilities
  • Support inpatient and outpatient cranial and spinal services at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • Play a critical role in delivering the on-call regional service for Hull and the Yorkshire & Humber region.
  • Contribute to the established multidisciplinary team services provided as part of quality clinical indicators.
  • Work as part of a 1:12 work schedule rota, including allocation of theatres, clinics, multidisciplinary team attendance, and ward clinical duties.
  • Contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the unit, managing and leading medical/surgical teams.

Person Specification
  • Professional Registration:
    • Full Registration with the General Medical Council
  • Qualifications and Training:
    • Part 1 or complete postgraduate qualification in Neurosurgery
    • Desirable: Postgraduate degree (MD, PhD) or postgraduate qualification in Education
  • Clinical Experience:
    • Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on a range of acute medical conditions
    • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Management and Administration Experience:
    • Ability to manage and lead medical/surgical teams
    • Ability to lead on the smooth and efficient running of the unit
    • Ability to organise, prioritise, and manage a high-intensity workload
  • Teaching, Audit, and Research:
    • Experience of supervising junior medical staff
    • Commitment to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, Allied Health Professionals, and medical students
    • Evidence of participation in audit
    • Ability to extrapolate clinical research evidence to care for individual patients
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Ability to work flexibly in a changing health service
    • Excellent manner with patients, being sensitive to their needs and fears
    • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, General Practitioners, nurses, and other health professionals
    • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional, and national levels
