SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary School

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team at a vibrant primary school in Washington. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in their educational journey.

Job Summary:

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will work as part of a caring and committed team, focusing on providing emotional and academic support to primary school children with SEMH needs. You will help students overcome barriers to learning by creating a nurturing environment and developing tailored strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Help students manage their behaviour through positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to create inclusive lesson plans.
  • Monitor students' progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents.
Requirements:
  • Have experience working with children with SEMH needs.
  • Be compassionate and patient in their supporting role.
  • Demonstrate strong behaviour management skills.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be adaptable and able to work in both part-time and full-time roles.
