Environmental Sustainability Coordinator

Position Overview
This position entails assisting the NSUST Manager in executing ALDI UK & Ireland's Scope 3 Carbon Reduction Strategy, with a focus on the Scope 3 categories currently reported by Aldi UK & Ireland. The role will emphasize the decarbonization of products from our primary commodity groups, while also encompassing activities from our Real Estate and National Supply Chain departments. Additionally, the successful applicant will undertake various reporting and administrative tasks to support the team.
We are on an ambitious journey towards Net-Zero and require a dedicated individual to help expedite our plans.
The role necessitates collaboration with various departments across both national and international teams, along with several external consultants. The ideal candidate will be responsible for establishing and managing these stakeholder relationships to advance ALDI's Carbon Reduction Strategy. Close cooperation with existing teams focused on carbon reduction will be essential to gather and utilize key information for effectively addressing our Scope 3 carbon.
Data analysis and calculation will be pivotal in this role, with the successful candidate aiding Aldi in assessing the GHG emissions impact of our major product groups throughout various supply chain stages. This may involve supporting agricultural carbon analysis, evaluating the logistics impact of our products, or modeling expected disposal emissions at customers' homes. Therefore, experience in carbon accounting is crucial, particularly in the areas of FLAG and Product emissions.
Interpreting, visualizing, and communicating this data will also be a significant aspect of the role, with the successful candidate engaging commercial colleagues on critical elements of Scope 3 carbon emissions. Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for reporting Aldi's Scope 3 emissions inventory to multiple third-party organizations, with the potential to take on the role of self-accounting our emissions inventory in the future.
The successful candidate will manage their own time effectively to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines across various projects. They will be expected to oversee multiple data systems related to carbon and will need to self-manage their work, providing updates and seeking approval from the NSUST Manager at regular intervals.
Key Responsibilities
- Carbon and climate data analysis and management, including but not limited to: Scope 3 Analysis, Accounting, and Reporting. Progress towards SBTi targets and necessary actions to support them. Engaging suppliers on climate and carbon initiatives. Analyzing product carbon footprints from cradle to grave.
- Engaging stakeholders on climate and carbon matters: Communicating with suppliers, service providers, and consultants regarding our Scope 3 emissions. Collaborating with internal teams (Buying, Real Estate, NSCM) on Scope 3 issues. Working with the international team on various projects (e.g., Marginal Abatement Cost Curve project).
- Utilizing multiple data capturing systems for our GHG emissions.
- Presenting information in an engaging manner to Aldi colleagues and third-party stakeholders.
- Managing multiple tasks and deadlines across a variety of projects.
- Providing general administrative support to the team.
Candidate Profile
- Experience related to greenhouse gases and carbon emissions.
- Knowledge and experience with key standards such as the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and SBTi Flag Guidance.
- Passionate about climate change and sustainability.
- Able to prioritize effectively while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Skilled in building strong relationships both internally and externally.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to track metric changes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Able to work under tight deadlines and adapt to business needs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan ahead.
- Enjoys working as part of a dynamic team.
- Curious, conscientious, and driven mindset.
Benefits
- Salary ranging from £36,080 to £42,135.
- Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with the option for 2 days of remote work.
- 5 weeks of annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
- Flexible working hours in the office.
- Comprehensive training provided.
- Pension scheme.
- Private employee medical insurance after 6 months.
- Company sick pay scheme.
- Company maternity and adoption pay after 1 year, and paternity leave pay after 2 years.
- Long service rewards.
- Access to MyBenefits, offering a wide range of perks, including a bike-to-work scheme, shopping and cinema discounts, health cash plan, a free will, travel and discounted gym memberships, and various benefits to support financial and wellbeing needs.
- Access to a free, 24/7 confidential virtual GP service for all Aldi colleagues and their children (under 16).
