About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our dynamic team at Houston & Hawkes. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for managing the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef and ensuring the highest standards of food quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations and maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation.
  • Set up the kitchen, ensuring all ingredients are fresh and in date, and prepare ingredients for menu items.
  • Design and implement seasonal menu items, controlling and directing the food preparation process to meet customer demands.
  • Ensure the presentation of food is consistent with the standards set by the Head Chef, focusing on all customers, including guests, staff, and visitors.
  • Meet dietary and allergen requirements, ensuring quality of food and service, and demonstrate personal development.
Requirements
  • A genuine passion for food and a strong understanding of culinary trends and innovations.
  • Industry acumen and knowledge of external catering developments and innovations.
  • Ability to work efficiently and competently under pressure, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • High level of self-motivation and flexibility, with a strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • 706/2 or NVQ chef qualifications, or equivalent, and a strong understanding of kitchen operations and management.
  • Honesty, transparency, and consistency, with the ability to gain and hold the respect of colleagues.
  • Personal innovation and passion, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and quality of service.
  • Computer literacy and a strong understanding of kitchen software and systems.
