Job Overview

A full-time Contract opportunity at Aylesbury Courts, working for HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), an agency of the Ministry of Justice. Initial contract until end of March 2025 with a view to extend.

Estimated salary: £44 per hour.

About the Role
  • The Court Usher acts as an essential first point of contact for all court users involved in hearings, meeting members of the public and their legal representatives.
  • You will prepare court/hearing rooms and complete documentation, ensuring the court runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • You will also carry out general clerical work as required to support the work of HMCTS.
Main Responsibilities
  1. Administration: Collecting and delivering files and bundles to the judiciary and clerks; providing support to colleagues and judiciary outside of court/hearing times; general clerical work including use of computers and switchboard.
  2. Post Handling: Opening, sorting, distributing and dispatching post as required.
  3. Monitoring Stock: Ensuring court rooms are supplied against requirements for relevant forms and stationery.
  4. Data Entry and Recording: Resulting, checking accuracy and completeness against guidelines or a proforma, straightforward money handling.
  5. Operating Equipment: Office and court equipment including computers, fax machines, scanners, photocopiers, switchboards, franking machines, messaging equipment.
  6. Handling Telephone Calls: Answering standard enquiries.
