Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding role within the Ophthalmology department at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. As an Ophthalmology Clinical Support Worker, you will play a vital part in delivering high-quality patient care and supporting the clinical team in the outpatient setting and day surgery unit.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the Ophthalmic team to provide a comprehensive service to patients.
  • Direct and support junior staff within the Ophthalmic team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Escalate any issues or concerns to the line manager in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work closely with service providers to ensure seamless delivery of the Ophthalmology service.
  • Liaise with reception staff to ensure patient records are accurately maintained and up-to-date.
  • Ensure all clinicians receive timely and accurate results.
  • Use automated and manual equipment to measure patients' spectacles, requiring a high level of hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.

Person Specification
  • Experience of working with the public.
  • Experience of carrying out assigned duties or assisting qualified staff after training.
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • Experience of working in a healthcare or related setting.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience of working in an Ophthalmology department.
  • IT skills (ECDL or equivalent).
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification in Healthcare or relevant experience.

  • Ability to form positive working relationships and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively with patients and colleagues, verbally and in writing.
