About the RoleThe Operations Manager - Maintenance and Engineering will lead and manage the engineering maintenance technicians to ensure productivity and output, equipment availability, health & safety compliance, quality, Maximo reporting, and team working is optimised in accordance with agreed timescales.
Key Responsibilities- Manage shift-based engineering maintenance technicians to carry out planned preventive, corrective, and reactive maintenance.
- Maintain and optimize the performance of equipment and staff in terms of operational safety, availability, responsiveness, and throughput to meet contractual service levels.
- Act as the first point of escalation and seek to resolve issues as they arise.
- Be the principal point of contact for BA Operations regarding maintenance and engineering matters, responsible for reporting according to agreed schedules and company procedures.
- Responsible for the Vanderlande maintenance team and any contractors working on their behalf, aiming to achieve optimum work performance, productivity, and reliability.
- Organise teams in all aspects of working time, presence at work, work rosters, staffing matrix, building access, health and safety inductions, cargo handling safety requirements, holiday and sickness, absence cover, and overtime work.
- Ensure proper handover of shift duties including tools and gear, as well as ongoing unresolved matters, areas of concern, and plant equipment that was only just returned to service.
- Attend meetings with BA and other Vanderlande functions to liaise and debrief operational matters, pick up, verify and settle concerns, progress joint efforts, propose worthwhile ways ahead while building reliable and trustworthy relationships.
- Disseminate comprehensive, accurate, and presentable reports according to contractual obligations and mutual agreements in a timely manner, ensuring all work entered into Maximo correctly and in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the continuous improvement of policies and procedures, as well as learning continuously and developing professional potential and ability.
- Ensure all staff comply with all aspects of Health and Safety at work and with Company Procedures.
- Ensure correct PPE is worn, Permit, and LOT procedures are followed.
- Experience in managing multi-skilled maintenance teams.
- Time served apprenticeship or equivalent.
- City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 or above in maintenance mechanical/electrical discipline.
- Previous experience within an FMCG manufacturing or automated warehousing environment (essential).
- A proactive approach to fault finding alongside excellent communication skills.
- Exposure to 17th edition.
- Exposure to ONC/HNC.
- Experience in using PLC's and diagnostics.
- Experience in training/coaching.
- Experience in RCA and Lean methodologies.
- Estimated salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
