Housing Support Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Housing Support Officer to join our team at Caridon Group. As a Housing Support Officer, you will play a vital role in providing housing-related support to our clients, enabling them to maintain their tenancies and achieve their aspirations for independent living.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Personal Housing Plans and Risk Assessments: Carry out Personal Housing Plans and Risk assessments to identify and address clients' housing and support needs.
  • Client Support and Guidance: Support clients in meeting their set goals, as outlined in their Personal Housing Plans, and provide guidance on accessing support from various agencies.
  • Housing and Support Services: Work with clients to understand their housing and support needs, ambitions, strengths, and talents, with a view to increasing their ability to cope and live independently.
  • Tenancy Management: Provide support and advice to vulnerable people to enable them to manage their tenancies effectively.
  • Reporting Repairs: Assist clients in reporting repairs and maintenance issues.
  • Regular Contact and Review: Maintain weekly contact with clients to support them in implementing their Personal Housing Plans and help them action their support needs.
  • Review and Update: Conduct regular reviews of risk assessments and support plans to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
  • Financial Support: Provide support on budgeting, maximising income, reducing expenditure, dealing with debt, rent arrears, and welfare benefits, including Housing Benefit.
  • Health and Wellbeing: Work with a range of agencies to promote health and wellbeing, including harm reduction to reduce the impact of risky behaviours such as alcohol and/or drug misuse.
  • Anti-Social Behaviour: Manage any anti-social behaviour/incidents, working closely with Local Authority and external stakeholders in line with Caridon Group's Policy and Procedure.
  • Referral and Signposting: Signpost clients to specialist organisations and liaise with colleagues and other partners in the event of tenancy breakdown.
  • Record Keeping: Record, update, and maintain accurate internal digital records (Nourish/Arthur/Company Share drive).
  • Safeguarding: Record and report safeguarding concerns in line with Caridon Group's duties and established policies and procedures.
  • Multi-Agency Meetings: Attend multi-agency meetings to promote the needs of clients or Caridon Group.
  • Move-On Planning: Work and support clients to create a realistic move-on plan that meets their housing needs.
  • Property Inspections: Carry out regular planned visits to maintain the support service for tenants and conduct weekly property inspections and monthly H&S inspections of allocated Units.
  • Statistics and Reporting: Provide monthly statistics and ensure confidentiality and data protection are observed at all times in compliance with the Data Protection Act & the General Data Protection Regulation.
  • Team Support: Stand in for other team members as and when required and undertake ad hoc responsibilities depending on the service's needs.
Requirements:
  • Experience: At least two years' experience in support work or a similar role.
  • Professional Relationships: Demonstrable ability to develop non-judgmental professional relationships with vulnerable clients, including those with mental health issues, substance misuse, and those who have experienced homelessness.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate well with clients and peers, with a strong focus on building trust and rapport.
  • Initiative and Teamwork: Ability to work positively without direct supervision, managing own time, meeting deadlines, and undertaking training, while also being an effective team player.
  • Liaison and Partnerships: Ability to liaise positively with other agencies and stakeholders, promoting the needs of clients and Caridon Group.
  • Health and Safety: Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including basic first aid, food hygiene, and infection control.
