We are seeking a highly skilled National Performance Excellence Manager to join our team at Tarmac. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in driving operational excellence and efficiency across our Aggregate and Asphalt businesses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant utilization, labor efficiency, waste reduction, and increased use of value-added products.
  • Support the development and implementation of the performance management framework for all business units, analyzing performance data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis to understand problems and develop sustainable solutions, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate and improve operational processes within regional businesses, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to drive efficiency.
  • Conduct regular site reviews, including value stream mapping of business processes, to provide a pipeline of improvement opportunities.
  • Provide governance and support for improvement projects across the businesses, sharing best practices and lessons learned.
  • Manage and direct the measurement and reporting of improvements, including financial and non-financial metrics.
  • Develop and implement capital plans to support business sustainability and improvement, recommending capital investments and supporting the implementation of approved projects.
  • Challenge cost and KPI targets, ensuring the optimization of plant and equipment, and reviewing KPIs monthly with regional teams.
  • Promote customer orientation, providing technical expertise for operational issues linked to customer needs.
  • Drive the use of digital tools and dashboards to support operational excellence initiatives and capability building in the business units.
  • Determine optimization projects to drive business improvements and cost savings across the business.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and innovation throughout the business.
  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels to drive change initiatives, address resistance, and ensure strategic alignment.
Requirements
  • Full UK manual car driving license with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Engineering or other industry-relevant higher-level qualification, with a role-related degree being highly beneficial.
  • Proven experience in performance and project management, or operations leadership roles within a quarrying, construction, heavy manufacturing, or engineering industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including coaching, mentoring, and development.
  • In-depth knowledge of lean principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other process improvement frameworks.
  • Experience in change management, with a strong advocate for innovation and change.
