About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Patient Flow Manager - Clinical Operations Specialist to join our team at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This exciting opportunity will see you play a key role in supporting patient flow within our Children's Services & Maternity department.

This is a challenging yet rewarding role that requires strong clinical governance, analytical, and problem-solving skills. As a Patient Flow Manager - Clinical Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating elective and emergency admissions to our Children's wards, maintaining accurate records of unit bed state, and reporting regularly to the Operations Centre.

You will work closely with medical, administrative, and managerial staff to ensure systematic booking of elective patients into ward diaries, taking into account patient priority. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to effectively liaise with all children's areas, ED/F3, to ensure timely allocation of vacant beds.

In addition to your core responsibilities, you will also be involved in managing on-site patient hostel accommodation, arranging cover with neighbouring hospitals during bed shortages, and delivering high-quality service standards to the public, GPs, and other hospital departments.

What You'll Need

To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • Demonstrable success in managing change and introducing new ways of working;
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team across departmental/service boundaries;
The ideal candidate will have a good general education, evidence of continuous professional development, and management training. You should also have experience in bed management, the NHS Plan, and modernisation agenda. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, as well as the ability to interpret and present information to support performance management.
