We are a prestigious independent school dedicated to providing an outstanding education in a nurturing and supportive environment. Our finance team is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Controller to join our team.

Key Responsibilities Of Financial Controller

  • Prepare and manage the school's monthly financial reports, including variance analysis and financial reporting to the Finance Director and governors.
  • Develop and maintain detailed budgets and forecasts, working closely with department heads to monitor performance and control costs.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and long-term planning.
  • Manage cash flow, including forecasting and monitoring, to ensure the school's financial stability.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory returns and compliance documentation.
  • Support the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring accurate and timely submission of all required information.
  • Maintain and improve financial systems and processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Assist with payroll management, pension schemes, and other employee benefits, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Provide training and support to non-financial staff on budget management and financial processes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial reports for fundraising, grant applications, and other revenue-generating activities.

The Ideal Candidate For Financial Controller

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a financial management role, ideally within the education sector or a similar environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate it effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across the school community.
