Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Pharmacy Medication Specialist to join our team at Care New England Health System. As a Pharmacy Medication Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and providing patient care under the direction of a Clinical Pharmacist.

Responsibilities:
  1. Fills and delivers medication through Pyxis Med Station RX System, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to nursing units.

  2. Determines when IVs and minibags are due by making rounds on each nursing unit, promoting efficient medication management.

  3. Prepares and delivers large volume intravenous mixtures, antibiotic mini bags, and total parental nutrition solutions, adhering to strict quality control standards.

  4. Pre-packs bulk medications and compounds ointments, creams, and oral solutions, maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

  5. Sets up and refills crash cart trays, ensuring emergency equipment is readily available.

  6. Restocks supplies, solutions, additives, and cleans IV hoods, promoting a clean and safe working environment.

  7. Assists the Clinical Pharmacist in entering new TPN orders, updates the database, and screens telephone calls, providing exceptional support.

  8. Provides quality assurance by completing departmental monthly competencies, ensuring compliance with industry standards.

  9. Updates policies and procedures for JCAHO compliance and maintains monthly logs by recording medication refrigerator temperatures and narcotic inventory verification status, demonstrating commitment to quality.

  10. Assists in monthly medical station inspections, identifying areas for improvement.

  11. Communicates with the Clinical Pharmacist to provide precise information when distributing medications in a timely manner to the nursing units, fostering collaboration.

  12. Assists in training new employees and ensures optimal pharmaceutical care is provided to patients, promoting a culture of excellence.

  13. Performs other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

Required Skills and Qualifications

A High School diploma or equivalent is required. Valid state Pharmacy Technician license or Pharmacist Limited license is required. National Certified Pharmacy Technician Affiliation is preferred. Minimum one-year pharmacy technician experience is required.
